Australia has always admired its sporting heroes and ignored their failings. In 2001 the top sportsmen are also celebrities and success means money. They have become role models, but as their misdemeanours make news maybe we are expecting too much of them.

Ian Johnson bought the King Island town of Grassy in Australia from the mining company North Broken Hill-Beko when they were going to bulldoze it. Johnson plans to make it a tourist centre, but is experiencing difficulties.
