Winstar files bankruptcy protection

Winstar Communications Inc, operator of a wireless network providing high- speed Internet access to office buildings, has filed for bankruptcy protection in Delaware on Apr 18, 2001. The company hopes to emerge from bankruptcy with significantly less debt, thus loweing its interest payments and having more opeating flexibility. Winstar also filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Lucent Technologies, alleging that Lucent violated a five-year supply agreement.

Infinity's $2.9B offering draws glut of bankers

Infinity Broadcasting Corp's $2.87-bil initial public offering (IPO) drew a total of 22 investment bankers who are expected to collect a total of over $135 mil in placement fees. The radio broadcasting company, which has the second-biggest radio station network in the US, became a publicly traded firm on Dec 10, 1998. Merrill Lynch and Company Inc, the lead manager for the Infinity IPO, is expected to generate $50 million for its role in the stock offering.

Internet service providers Juno, NetZero to merge
Article Abstract:
NetZero and Juno Online Services, former fierce rivals, have agreed on Jun 7, 2001 to merge in a $71 million stock swap that creates the nation's second-largest Internet service provider. The merged company, to be called United Online, combines the last large independent survivors of the free Internet aceess providers. The mergd company will have 7 million subscribers, behond AOL Time Warner's 29 million.
