CanWest raises Alliance Atlantis stake

CanWest Global Communications Corp, a Winnipeg, Canada-based broadcaster, increased its voting shares in Toronto, Canada-based Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc by buying from an institutional investor 925,000 class A shares at C$21 each on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Alliance Atlantis produces and distributes films and television programs internationally. The acquisition boosts CanWest's investment in Alliance Atlantis to 1.04 million class A shares, or 20.6% of those outstanding.

Maple Leaf Foods buying Manitoba hog operation
Article Abstract:
Maple Leaf Foods Inc of Toronto, Ontario, has agreed to acquire Landmark Group Inc for some C$150 million, including debt assumption of C$44 million. Under the terms of the transaction, Landmark shareholders will receive as many as 1.5 million Maple Leaf shares and the remainder will be financed by existing lines of credit. The acquisition will make Maple Leaf a player in Western Canada's hog industry.
