Zabeel - father of the year
Article Abstract:
New Zealand thoroughbred race horse Zabeel fathered the first and second place winners of the Melbourne Cup: Jezabeel and Champagne, but the real money lies with Zabeel. Zabeel produced 10 winners from his first four crops. Breeder Patrick Hogan, who owns a majority share in the racehorse has no plans of selling him. Zabeel is expected to bring in $NZ9.1 million for the 1998-99 season by serving approximately 130 broodmares.

Xena-phobia
Article Abstract:
The attempt to promote New Zealand's desirability as a tourist mecca encountered several significant challenges. Many of those on the New Zealand Tourism Board resigned or were fired, a media campaign to employ such fictional figures as Xena, the warrior princess, proved to be too expensive, and these events contributed to a minor constitutional crisis. New Zealand tourists spent $2.7 bil in 1998.
