The Japanese economy is in doldrums in spite of being the second largest economy in the world, with a gross domestic product (GDP) of around four trillion American dollars. The reasons that led to the effective insolvency of the Japanese banking system are the decline in real estate prices, coupled with the fall in stock prices.
