Every second counts: a stroke is like a fire: you need to put it out fast
Article Abstract:
The drug t-PA, approved in 1996, helps treat strokes as they occur by dissolving blood clots. Many who have used it have a quicker recovery. Doctors test to see if a patient could benefit from the drug within three hours of the onset of a stroke, but, some wonder if testing methods are accurate enough to ensure that the drug is not given to people who are having a hemorrhagic stroke because of potential health problems. Other treatments are described.
