AARP volunteers organize, campaign, and work to inform the public about key issues concerning older people. Some issues in the works are California's and Tennessee's nursing home reform, Massachusetts' attempt to expand prescription drug coverage, tobacco -settlement funds usage in Massachusetts and Minnesota. Laws have been enacted in Georgia and South Dakota regarding managed care, health insurance premiums in Missouri and mental health parity in Oklahoma.

Article Abstract:
Conservationist Merlin Tuttle became interested in bats as a teenager in Tennessee where thousands of bats lived in a cave nearby. He became alarmed over the decline in bat populations throughout the world. He founded the nonprofit Bat Conservation International (BCI) which helped turn a colony of Mexican free-tailed bats into a tourist attraction in Austin, Texas.
