Article Abstract:

The right-wing Vlaams Blok (Flemish Nationalist Party) is soon to see 18 of its members take up seats on Antwerp's city council of 55 members. The party is calling for migrant repatritation, special schools for non-Europeans, an end to asylum for political refugees and the mass expulsion of illegal Belgian immigrants. Its views have been particularly popular in a city with considerable economic and social problems.

Two recent decisions by the US Supreme Court on libel cases point to an increasing tendency among court members to require journalists to corroborate their statements with material taken from obvious sources. The cases involved The NewYorker and the Journal News of Hamilton, OH. The court decided in both cases that the newspapers failed to show that they tried to corroborate their assertions.
