Mandatory retirement: public safety depends not on age, but fitness

Article Abstract:

Congress passed amendments to the Aged Discrimination in Employment Act in Oct 1996, that allow cities to force police officers and firefighters to retire at age 55. Many of these older workers have valuable experience and can serve ably for many more years. The law should be revised.

Focusing on fitness

Keeping fit does not have to hurt the body. Often, 30 minutes a day of physical activity is enough to keep the body in shape. Such activity can also help prevent many diseases. The World Wide Web offers numerous sites to help people set up a fitness regimen.
