The Slightly Older Guy need not feel alone, there are a number of well-known Slightly Older Guys around, ranging from Chevy Chase to Tom Brokaw. However, the Slightly Older Guy must learn to deal with factors such as increasing chin fat, diminishing sexuality, retirement, and failing memory.

Time improves lives of older widows

Article Abstract:

A study funded by the American Assn of Retired Persons shows that widows over time are able to adjust their lives and develop a more positive outlook. In fact widows over 50 years of age, who have been widowed an average of 12 years, are as satisfied and optimistic as married women.

Older blacks: no-nonsense leisure activities

Article Abstract:

A 1993 survey of older Americans has revealed that older African Americans seem to prefer product-oriented leisure activities, such as sewing or gardening. Any ethnic differences are expected to disappear in the years ahead as leisure activity will be largely determined by income.
