A cut too far?
Article Abstract:
Transurethral resection prostatectomy is the routine treatment for benign growth of the prostate gland, commonly experienced by males over the age of 45. However, this is a major operation involving a hospital stay of up to five days, there is a 25% failure rate, and risks include incontinence, impotence, and serious conditions related to glycine irrigant absorption. Two alternative options for treatment, transurethral ablative prostatectomy and transurethral radio frequency thermotherapy, can be administered in outpatient clinics, without anaesthesia and with minimal risk.
