Super choice looms for all

The Australian government has released the details of super fund choice legislation. The government has outlined three models from which employers choose from one of three types of plans. One option is to offer employees limited choice from four pre-selected super funds. The second plan offers employers to right negotiate for their choice of superfunds and the third option is for employers to provide employees with unlimited choice of investment options.

Choice's two-edged sword

While successful investors welcome the option of being able to choose superannuation funds, there is a fear that many people could lose their retirement assests by making poor choices in their investment strategies. Educating consumers will be one of the keys to whether choice will benefit the employee.
