The union-based industry super funds and the big fund managers have been successful in lobbying against legislated, compulsory disclosure of useful performance information. Members receive only a graph of a fund's performance vs the consumer price index (CPI), or inflation, in annual reports. A retirees' CPI should be developed because retirees spend differently from other population sectors.
