Article Abstract:

Portable timepieces have changed over time since they were first introduced around 1600. Pocket watches moved from being practical to being a fashion statement because of their design and detail. Wrist watches were created around 1900. They too became fashion statements. It was not until the 1970s that watches became affordable, with many costing less than $100. Three of the latest trends in watches for men are mentioned.

Getting involved pays off

Members of AARP Chapter 109 in Bella Vista, AK, started a recycling center during the 1970s. The center earned $82,000 in 1995, which was donated to various charities. Chapter 4763 in South Brunswick, NJ, runs a prisoner rehabilitation project that teaches inmates job and life skills.
