Treasurer's crystal ball is flawed
Article Abstract:
The Treasury in Australia has certain expectations for its next fiscal year, and investors should know what the expectations are, but the Treasury often anticipates things that do not happen. Markets may nevertheless be affected by the anticipated events. The Treasury clearly thinks the economy will slow in the aftermath of the financial problems Asia has had. Interest rate forecasts are not clear.

Depression: the news is good and bad
Article Abstract:
The global economy in 1998 may slow down, but it is unlikely that the world would head into a recession or a depression. The US economy is slowing down and companies already predict their earnings will be sharply reduced. Growth in Asia is slowing down but investors should be aware of industrial production with demands for key commodity exports.
