Cleaner New Englanders
Article Abstract:
A consortium of 17 electric and gas companies from Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts have started the TumbleWash rebate program. TumbleWash, which is funded by the Energy Star program of the DOEand the EPA, aims to foster the use of high-efficiency front-loading washing machines. They consume 1/3 less water and 60% less energy than ordinary top-loading units. These appliances are being sold by manufacturers such as Maytag, Frigidaire and GE which carry the Energy Star logo. Consumers who buy these models can mail the rebate forms to their participating utility. Rebates range from $15O in Vermont to $100 in Massachusetts.
