The four CD-ROMs on Australia from Webster Multimedia, all priced at 49.99 pounds sterling, are comprehensive and feature excellent search facilities. The Encyclopedia of Australia 1996 offers a wide range of information on the country accessed through a single-page pictorial index. The Great Barrier Reef contains a wealth of information on wildlife and ecology. Animals Down Under is a comprehensive guide to birds, mammals, frogs and reptiles. A journey down Big River
Article Abstract:
A Sheffield University expedition canoed the 1700-km length of northwest Canada's Mackenzie River in 1995, making a variety of observations and seeking samples of Arctic willow. The challenging trip departed from Great Slave Lake and touched on only 10 communities before concluding at Inuvik by the Beaufort Sea. Forest fires had devastated the intended willow-gathering sites, but birdlife logs and a record of vegetation changes were worthwhile nonetheless. Daily activities and the trip's conditions are described.
