Jobs in the '90s
Article Abstract:
The views and opinions of ROMAC and Associates, Inc (Newton, MA) Pres Ralph E. Struzziero on the job market in the 1990s are presented. Struzziero, who heads the personnel placement firm, believes that the most significant factor affecting the job market in the 1990s is the downsizing of US corporations in order to promote their competitiveness. The downsizing of US corporations will mean that there are less layers of middle management, leading to the elimination of many middle management jobs. The remaining managers will be required to do more, necessitating that managers improve their technical and managerial skills to be able to take on new responsibilities in order to remain employed.

Dreaming of yew
Article Abstract:
Allen Meredith's research on the origins of the yew tree has caused dendrochronologists to reevaluate their assessments of the age of yew trees. Meredith discovered that yew trees in the UK could live at least 1,000 years instead of just hundreds of years. This has led to a debate about the effect of paganism on Christianity. Some Christians believe that yews were planted next to churches, but Meredith's research suggests that churches were built next to yews by pre-Christian peoples.
