Improving private incentives for electric grid investment
Article Abstract:
A contract network approach can be applied in organizing the structure of transmission sectors under a competitive, deregulated environment. Such an approach is likely to enhance the establishment of technical reliability standards and ensure additional transmission capacity of power firms. The proposed method further outlines a set of approaches that would be useful in resolving negative externality problems regarding investment incentives of transmission congestion contracts. Investing firms could be secured against anticipated costs of congestion by transmission congestion contracts that will be provided to them by the independent system operators.

Gas power production, surplus concepts and the transformation of hydro electric rent into resource rent
Article Abstract:
A model, based on the cost and demand structure of gas power plants and gas extraction infrastructure, was used to analyze the surplus effects of joint development of large scale gas power production and extraction. It was established that the integration of a low cost power generation into a particular power generation system tends to result in the transformation of hydro rent into resource rent. Moreover, such a process may eventually lead to the formation of surplus to the gas extraction sector, which in turn, will result in a decrease in price elasticity and total rent.

Predicting participation intentions for optional energy services
Article Abstract:
A conjoint analysis that utilizes ordered probit model was proven effective in predicting participation intentions of commercial and industrial customers in an optional electric utility-sponsored program. Utilization of the probit model, which estimate an aggregate multi-attribute utility function, has resulted to the creation of predictions that were much closer to actual behavior than those obtained from the linear model. The proposed approach was also found to be applicable in multiproduct case.
