Industrial revolution
Article Abstract:
Artificial reefs, which increase fish harvests and protect marine habitat, can be created by reusing discarded oil platforms, although some environmentalists oppose this method. All over the world, reefs have been created using clean oil rigs, pulverized fuel ash, cement, plastic pipe, and a variety of other reusable materials. Although certain sea-dumping activities will create environmental problems, UK research indicates minimal problems arise from dumping clean oil platforms and rigs and reusing them to create reefs.

Eco-park dream turns sour
Article Abstract:
Esprit de Corp. owner Douglas Tompkins' plan to create the world's largest ecology park in southern Chile was foiled after the Chilean government refused to grant him authority to purchase the 30,000-ha. land in Chilean Patagonia. Tompkins already owns 270,000 ha. of mostly virgin temperate rainforest in the area, but wants to buy the remaining piece of land that is bisecting his properties. He warned that he will stop public access to his properties if the government refuses to grant him the land.

Mr. Beck's underground map
Article Abstract:
The London Underground Map was its creator Harry C. Beck's life's work. The radically new map for London's intricate railway network is an organized representation of a disorderly system. Beck twice presented his design to the then London Underground Group and was finally published in 1933. It was warmly accepted by the city's travelling public for its visual appeal, clarity and practicality. It has also served as a model for other urban railways and transport systems around the world.
