Primary resource use and voluntary recycling schemes: dynamic issues in a global context
Article Abstract:
A simple dynamic model that distinguishes between primary materials using and primary materials producing was used to show that recycling methods that depended on voluntary action could lead to an increased use of primary materials. A primary-materials producer and a materials user are the agents. Northern producers of the final good are effectively subsidized by recycling on a voluntary basis. Their accumulation intensity may offset the unit savings on primary materials. Results show that a reduction of the Northern savings propensity is the most effective primary sources conservation method.

Monopsony power and the existence of natural monopoly in energy utilities
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the relationship between monopsony power and natural monopoly status shows that companies with superadditive technologies may not possess the characteristics of a natural monopoly if the estimated cost function does not justify monopsony power. A proposed alternative method for testing the natural monopoly status of public utilities eliminates the bias against finding the natural monopoly status.
