SCR pilot project sees positive results
Article Abstract:
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG and E) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) performed an advanced SCR project to solve the problem of limited use of in-duct selective catalytic reduction (SCR) brought by the available duct space for catalyst installation and less than optimal distribution profiles for flue gas velocity, NOx, and ammonia. The project intended to examine the use of low-NOx combustion systems to minimize the needed catalyst, to show modeling techniques to examine effects of velocity, NOx and ammonia distribution, and to assess catalytic air preheater elements to limit ammonia slip. Pilot-scale results revealed that outlet NOx and ammonia slips of less than 10 ppm are achievable.

FLGR may offer low cost NOx cuts
Article Abstract:
The Gas Research Institute's Power Generation Business Unit says it has discovered a big potential for the electric generation industry with a new technology called fuel-lean gas reburning (FLGR), which is formerly called controlled gas injection. The technology is undergoing development and testing by Energy Systems Associates (ESA), with GRI and member company support. FLGR is anticipated to obtain a moderate NOx reduction of 30% to 45% with low natural gas consumption. The process could be an answer for cleaner plants that are being hindered by compliance difficulties.
