The dynamic continent
Article Abstract:
The map of Antarctica may have changed recently due to the separation of two large ice shelves from the Antarctic Peninsula. The Larsen and Prince Gustav ice shelves broke away from the peninsula region in early 1995, allowing James Ross Island to be completely sailed around for the first time. Radio-echo soundings to determine the grounding-line between continental and floating ice, and satellite images and aerial photos have all helped cartographers to accurately map Antarctica.
