The right risks: shareholders deserve to be protected from some risks - and exposed to others
Article Abstract:
The need to examine how an organization's risks affect shareholder value and to transfer the volatility of some of these risks to third parties is essential in today's utility industry, which is slowly being reshaped by deregulation. Elementary risk management has four processes, namely, risk identification, risk assessment, risk mitigation, and risk financing. However, what is important is how risks are parceled, which is a process that should involve how one sees its core mission and the reasons why investors invest in it. In implementing risk management strategies, companies may either use a consultative process to produce a comprehensive risk profile, or use a risk-mapping process.
