Third quarter EPS highest in three years

Earnings per share (EPS) for investor-owned electric utilities rose to a three-year high in 3d qtr 1998 as basic and diluted EPS after extraordinary items reached $0.85. The rise in earnings is attributable to better performance of nonregulated subsidiaries and warm summer weather. The income statement of the investor-owned electric utility sector's reveals that total operating revenues and total operating income are up 28.1% and 6.1% for 3d qtr 1998. The balance sheet, on the other hand, reveals that total assets and total capitalization are both up 5.7% as of Sep 30, 1998.

1992 earnings up 8.2 percent
Article Abstract:
The US investor-owned electric utility's operating revenues grew only 1.7% in 1992, despite a 2.6% growth in the fourth quarter. Total operating expenses increased 2.3%. The equity capitalization ratio increased 43.3% and the long-term debt ratio dropped to 49.7% from 50.0%. Earnings per share rose 8.2% to 32 cents, as common dividends rose 2.8% to 45 cents.
