GERMANY: BIOCARE BOUGHT BY MODEX

Article Abstract:

German Leipzig-based BioCare Biotechnologie fur die Therapie GmbH has been taken over by Swiss Lausanne-based Modex Therapeutiques S.A. for DM 2.3mn. The German company set up in 1997 produces wound care and other biotechnological products for medicine. In cooperation with Modex and the Bern University Hospital, it had developed the Epigraft technology for closing chronic wounds. BioCare expects the company's turnover to reach a double-digit million amount within five years. In the first 9 months of 2000 Modex recorded a loss of SFr 6.74mn on a turnover of SFr 470mn.

GERMANY: HYDRO CHEMICALS UNITS TO KRUSE CHEMIE

Article Abstract:

Norsk Hydro of Norway, which is concentrating its German operations on the sales and marketing of the group's nitrogen products, is selling the production facilities for sulphuric acid, soda lye, surfactants and mixed products of Hydro Chemicals Deutschland GmbH in Oberhausen to Kruse Chemie kg of Balve with effect from the beginning of 2001. Kruse will operate the activities as an independent unit under the name Hamm Chemie GmbH. The production plant for sulphate and hydrochlorid acid at the site are to be closed at the end of year 2000.

GERMANY: DELTON FLEXIBLE PACKAGING TO PENTAPLAST

Article Abstract:

In Germany, Klockner Pentaplast is to raise its annual turnover to DM 1bn by taking over the flexible packaging division of Bad Homburg-based Delton AG. Subject to the approval of the cartel authorities, the deal is to take effect on 1 April 2001. The flexible packaging division of Delton employs 210 staff and generates an annual turnover of DM 85mn. It comprises PK Druck und Verpackungen GmbH of Betzigau and the subsidiaries P & E Verpackungen GmbH of Kempten and Ceta S.A. of Vouvry .
