SWITZERLAND: CHEMICAL TRADE SURPLUS UP

Article Abstract:

In the first half of 2001 Switzerland recorded a surplus of SFr 8.8bn in foreign trade in chemicals, up 10.4% from the year earlier period. Despite slack international economic development, exports grew 18.4% to SFr 21.8bn, while imports increased 24.6% to SFr 13bn. The industry association SGCI reports that the exports of pharmaceuticals grew 26.6% to SFr 14.3bn, while imports amounted to SFr 6.2bn. Exports of plant protection agents increased 20.2% and those of essential oils, aromas and fragrances by 15.8%, while those of pigments and colours increased 0.2%.

Germany: Jerini in deal with Aventis Pharma

Article Abstract:

German Berlin-based Jerini AG has signed a cooperation agreement with Aventis Pharma. The big pharmaceutical company will supply Jerini with the Icatibant synthetic decapeptide for pre-clinical and clinical studies. Beside milestone payments and royalties, Aventis Pharma will have the rights to license any products resulting from the Jerini project.
