Bad apples or bad bushel? Ethics, efficiency and capital market integrity
Article Abstract:
The numbers of business scandals are increasing and it becomes clearer that the problem facing the capital markets is spread throughout financial intermediaries, raising relevant questions regarding the ways to deal with these business scandals. These scandals not only represents and ethical breakdown of the system, but also implies a simultaneous loss of efficiency as professional integrity is the fundamental value proposition of financial intermediaries.

The September 11 terrorist attacks has halted trading indefinitely and created a national sense of physical and economic vulnerability. It is argued that the intrinsic importance of ethical considerations has the instrumental benefit of helping to reduce moral misconduct.
