Privacy rights in the information economy
Article Abstract:
Priscilla Regan's book entitled 'Legislating Privacy: Technology, Social Values and Public Policy' calls for the protection of personal privacy rights. The emergence of information technology in the 1980s has resulted in the steady disappearance of personal privacy. Since then, information has become a product that can either be sold or exchanged easily. Imposing careful restrictions on property rights in personal data can arrest the situation as long as they do not result in the withholding of critical information that is required for the common good.
