Many Arab countries in the past managed to keep governmental affairs out of airwaves, but their rules and politics may change with the introduction of digital technology and proliferation of satellites that promise to give broadcasters freedom from local constraints. Given the financial rewards, the future of broadcasting in Arab countries depends largely on content rather than politics.
