Developments in the German Green Party: 1995-1999
Article Abstract:
The German Greens has merged with Alliance '90 and has undergone organisational changes. The party entered government in 1998, by joining a coalition with the Social Democrats (SPD). The Greens have decided against allying with the Party of Democratic Socialism at national level. The electorate has doubts about the Greens' ability to govern, partly due to the Greens' policies, such as the closure of nuclear power plants, There are tensions within the party, such as those between the Parliamentary Party and the grass roots, and between the Greens of eastern Germany and those from the west.

From a party of young voters to an ageing generation party? Alliance '90/the Greens after the 1998 federal elections
Article Abstract:
The German federal elections of 1998 resulted in the loss of power for the ruling party, and the entry of the Green Party into a coalition. The Greens gained 4.1% of the vote in eastern Germany, and 7.3% in the west. There was a drop in the proportion of younger voters selecting the Greens in 1998 compared with 1994, and there was an increase in the voites won among the 45 to 59-year-old age group. The Greens tend to be seen as competent only in terms of their environmental policies. The party will face problems if it is only concerned with ecology.

Developments in the German Green Party: 1992-95
Article Abstract:
The Green Party in Germany has undergone many coalition strategies since 1993. Although the party was averse to the idea of coalition, it reconciled itself to join the Social Democrats (SDP). However, this union was short lived owing to the ideologies of the Greens. In 1994, the Greens took a seasoned decision and made overtures for coalition with the SDP again. The Greens also contemplated coalescing with the Christian Democrats in the first half of 1995.
