One country, one system in Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong Democratic Party chmn Martin Lee believes that the democratic form of government enjoyed by Hong Kong under British rule will disappear under Chinese rule. China has announced that it will appoint a legislature for Hong Kong despite an earlier pledge that the administrative region's legislature shall be elected. The National People's Congress has declared a law curtailing the powers of Hong Kong's judicial system. These point to the fact that China wants a higher degree of control over Hong Kong in contrast to earlier promises of preserving the region's economy.
