Doomed to remain a great power
Article Abstract:
Russia has reemerged as a force in its own right whose interests sometimes diverge from Europe's and with a unique perspective on the war in former Yugoslavia. Together with debate on enlargement of NATO and the Commonwealth of Independent States' development into a military/political bloc, that has shaped the ambitions of Russia's interior, clashing powers. Russia wants to be a natural participant in dialogues on NATO's activities, and it hopes the handling of Serbs outside Serbia can apply to Russians outside Russia.

Russia: geopolitics and crime
Article Abstract:
Russia's confused state is dictated largely by the twin issues of statehood and privatization, which pit state power against state purpose. Leading government arms, such as the KGB, are increasingly entangled in commercial enterprises that entail different agendas. Connections continue to dominate Russian business, as does a large and growing criminal element that has serious implications for national security. Russia's internal and international power are increasingly difficult to separate.
