'People power' in Paraguay
Article Abstract:
A series of political and military events were unleashed following the assassination of Paraguayan vice-president Luis Maria Argana in March 1999, ending with the resignation of President Raul Cubas Grau, and signalling the completion of the country's transition to democracy. The conditions are now ready to meet the political, social, and economic challenges ahead, successfully.

Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the overthrowing of the corrupt president Joseph Estrada in January 2001 in the Philippines are discussed. Particular attention is given the events leading to the change of administration and the class division that they exposed.
