The consciousness-raising with respect to socialism and democracy, which has occurred above all within the new social movements, has reached a point at which the need for a broader unity, for a comprehensive structural understanding of oppression, is widely recognized. The presence of a broad spectrum of movements in a single political space can serve as a constant reminder of the need for a deeper level of unity.
