The Kyoto Protocol: a framework for the future
Article Abstract:
The Kyoto Protocol, developed on Dec 11, 1997, requires industrialized countries to decrease their greenhouse gas emissions to at least 5% of 1990 levels between 2008 and 2012. It is argued that the decrease in emissions will involve additional costs and that the protocol will not cause substantial economic losses. It is also argued that the protocol provides a suitable foundation for controlling climate change.
