The post-totalitarian blues
Article Abstract:
The lack of citizen participation in the political debate, apathy toward democratic reform, and the growing mistrust of parliamentary institutions in Russia indicate the country is likely to meet the same fate as Western democracies. The initial excitement generated by the transition from communism to a democratic form of government has died down. The upsurge of corporate power and the revival of communal conflicts have obliterated the vision of rule of law and private property.
