Behavioral activation and lack of concern, core symptoms of anorexia nervosa?

Article Abstract:

A literature review reveals that there are some unusual symptoms which frequently co-exist with anorexia nervosa. One aspect is that patients with anorexia nervosa often appear to be lively and energetic despite their emaciated state. The findings raise a hypothesis that starvation creates a state of physiological arousal which, in patients vulnerable to anorexia nervosa due to their unhappiness and lack of control, will be pleasurable enough to promote and sustain anorexia nervosa.

Individual psychopathology relative to reports of unwanted sexual experiences as predictor of a bulimic eating pattern

Article Abstract:

A survey of 61 women was conducted to find out the psychological reasons behind the eating disorder called bulimia nervosa. Results show that the disorder is directly related to repeated sexual abuse during childhood and adolescence. Furthermore, impulsive behavior, suicidal tendency and depression aggravate the patient's condition. On the other hand, substance abuse and psychiatric morbidity were found to be insignificant factors.

Family functioning in anorexia nervosa differs by subtype

Article Abstract:

Research into family functioning in adolescents with the restricting and bulimic form of anorexia nervosa is presented. It was established that negative affect, overt distress and unresolved conflict exist in families of anorectic patients with bulimic habits but are not found in families with anorectic daughters who limited their food intake.
