Cognitive impairment in anorexia nervosa is not due to depressed mood

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between cognitive impairment and mental depression in anorexic patients. The authors argue no relationship exists between cognitive functioning and depression in anorexics, suggesting more research should be conducted to find alternative explanations for cognitive deficits in anorexia nervosa patients.

Obsessions and compulsions in anorexia nervosa subtypes

Article Abstract:

This article examines the frequency and characteristic of obsessive-compulsive disorder compulsions in a large sample of anorexic patients. The authors conclude that the phenotype characteristics shared by anorexic and obsessive-compulsive disorder patients demonstrate that the disorders share a common brain behavioral pathway.

Anxiolytic effects of acute tryptophan depletion in anorexia nervosa

Article Abstract:

This article examines the brain chemical imbalance in anorexic patients. The authors, focusing on the role of serotonin and tryptophan on the mood of anorexic patients, argue anorexics who diet reduce levels of tryptophan which directly effect serotonin levels, thereby controlling and reducing dysphoric mood.
