Eating problems in female Japanese high school students: a prevalence study

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of eating problems among 2,685 female students at three high schools in Fukushima, Japan, is at the bottom of the range of between 5% and 22% reported in adolescent female populations in Europe and North America on the basis of Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) scores. Some 5.4% of the subjects had a total EAT-26 score equal to or more than 20. Distorted body image was found to be the most significant factor independently linked with eating problems.
