Facilitative orthographic neighborhood effects: The SERIOL model account

Article Abstract:

The predictions of the SERIOL model regarding the influence of contrast manipulations of the asymmetry on the orthographic neighborhood (N) effect are tested. The results show that the letter level is the primary locus of the N effect under lexical decision and that the hemispheric specificity of the N effect does not reflect differential processing at the lexical level.

Combined expectancy effects: An accumulator model

Article Abstract:

The Adjusted Expectancy Model (AEM) that provides an explicit account of combined expectancy effects in mathematical terms based on biologically plausible assumptions is discussed. It is suggested that the model can be applied to other phenomena which may be affected in part by combined expectancies.

Robust representations for face recognition: The power of averages

Article Abstract:

A simple image-averaging technique is used to derive abstract representations of known faces using Principal components analysis is described. It is also revealed that how PCA on image averages appears to preserve identity-specific face information and eliminates non-diagnostic pictorial information.
