Family functioning and adolescent alcohol use disorders
Article Abstract:
A study of 126 adolescents with alcohol dependence, 124 adolescents with other mental disorders and 94 adolescents with no mental disorders shows differences in family functioning. The families of adolescents who abuse alcohol experience more dysfunction than the families of normal adolescents. There is a perception difference between adolescents and mothers in the family function comparison of adolescents with mental disorders and adolescents with alcohol use disorders. Adolescents do not see a marked difference whereas mothers indicate more problems in the case of alcohol use adolescents.

Maternal employment and the quality of daily experience for young adolescents of single mothers
Article Abstract:
Full-time paid employment of single mothers of young adolescents is a predictor of higher positive experience in terms of the time spent with fathers and the subjective experiences with both the parents and self. Adolescents whose mothers are engaged in full time paid work show greater positive self-esteem. An analysis of a research on fifty five young adolescents living in single mother families is given.

Maternal self-discrepancies, interrole conflict, and negative affect among married professional women with children
Article Abstract:
Self-discrepancy theory was applied to a study of the maternal self-concept and interrole conflict for married professional women with children. Structural role redefinition and superwoman coping strategies were positively linked to coping effectiveness, and the structural role redefinition strategy was positively linked with work support, social support and spousal support.
