Hand preference in unimanual and bimanual tasks and postural effect on manual laterality in captive red-capped mangabeys (Cereocebus torquatus torguatus)

Article Abstract:

Hand preference in 11 captive red-caped mangabeys (Cercocebus torquatus torquatus) was examined under different conditions, a free situation during spontaneous food processing, three different postural conditions (brachiating, and bipedal and tripedal standing), and a situation involving bimanual processing. The strength of manual preference was higher for both the bimanual and experimental tasks than for unimanual tasks and spontaneous activities.

Reproductive parameters and life-history variables in captive golden-bellied mangabeys (Cercocebus agilis chrysogaster)

Article Abstract:

Reproductive parameters and life-history variables collected at the Sacramento Zoo for five female golden-bellied mangabeys over a 7-year period are discussed. The results suggest the use of husbandry practices that include consistent data collection to enhance regularity in reproductive cycles and maximize captive breeding success for this rare species.

Hand preferences on unimanual and bimanual tasks in white-faced capuchins (Cebus capucinus)

Article Abstract:

The hand preference in white-faced capuchins is examined on a unimanual task and on a coordinated bimanual task. Tests have shown no significant differences in strength of hand preferences between sexes, but they are more lateralized in the bimanual task compared to the unimanual task.
