Obesity treated with phototherapy: four case studies
Article Abstract:
Case studies of obese patients treated with phototherapy reveal that the therapy can reduce body weight. Phototherapy was given daily for a duration of 10 days, and then twice a week for four and a half weeks. The patients showed sensitivity to light. The net weight of three of the four women patients decreased between 1.5 to 2.4 kg. The three patients also reported an improvement in mood. The results indicate that light-exposure affects the melatonin-serotonin system and carbohydrate intake.

A randomized comparison of cognitive behavioral therapy and behavioral weight loss treatment for overweight individuals with binge eating disorder
Article Abstract:
Overweight patients with binge eating disorder (BED) were given cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and behavioral weight loss treatment (BWLT) with a view to determine their comparative efficacy. CBT was observed to be more effective in the short term but over a period of time the two treatments were equally effective and further research into cost effectiveness of the two therapies is recommended.

Binge eating and exercise behavior after surgery for severe obesity: A structural equation model
Article Abstract:
A model in which eating patterns and exercise beliefs influence binge eating and physical exercise, respectively, that, in turn, influence outcome after gastric banding for severe obesity was studied to seek indications for its appropriateness. It was found that binge eating was related more strongly to the outcome after gastric banding than physical exercise.
