Object-based visual selection: evidence from perceptual completion

Article Abstract:

Two experiments were conducted to investigate extensions of object-based effects on object representations requiring perceptual completion. Results of the first experiment supported the concept that attention is object based depending on certain conditions. The second experiment suggested an extension to objects requiring perceptual completion of subjection contours. Findings indicate that an engagement of perceptual completion processes is a prerequisite to the attainment of object-based selection.

Perceived continuity of occluded visual objects

Article Abstract:

Neural mechanisms in the human visual system and a three-dimensional surface layout representation control perceived continuity of occluded visual objects. Amodal integration was observed when the occlusion does not remove object existence as subjects observe a bistable Ternus display. Psychophysical and neurophysiological tests also proved sensitivity retention for observers when objects were viewed through 'picket fence' occluders.

A developmental deficit in localizing objects from vision

Article Abstract:

Exhaustive single-subject analysis of developmental learning disabilities may be useful in disseminating knowledge of the disabilities and understanding normal cognition. The study of a college student with a developmental deficit in identifying the placement of objects from vision helps in depiction and processing of location information in the visual system and understanding developmental dyslexia.
