Peer counselling in Saudi Arabia
Article Abstract:
Peer counseling has tended to be used in Western cultures, but it has also been used on a trial basis in a secondary school for boys in Saudi Arabia during one academic year. The goal was to help individuals and bring improvements to the social environment, with a reduction in loneliness. Loneliness did not show improvements during the time of the study, but guidance and reliable alliance were two social provisions that did exhibit improvements, and fewer problems were reported to the school counselor. Clients reported the service to be valuable, and there was a rise in self-esteem for peer counselors, though teachers tended not to support the project.

Multicultural peer counselling: counselling the multicultural student
Article Abstract:
The need for culturally competent counselers has been stressed by researchers, and a number of recruitment methods can be used for recruiting, choosing and training peer advisers for a multicultural setting. There is no agreement on whether clients benefit from counseling from someone who shares their ethnic background, cultural awareness is clearly a necessity. Peer advisor programs can supplement existing services and improve the way that services are used in centers.
