Psychological and physiological characteristics of sweet food 'addiction'

Article Abstract:

A study aimed to examine the affective, physiological and overt behavioral variables in chocolate 'addicts', and compare them with control subjects. Addicts scored much higher on the Disinhibition subscale of the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ) and much higher on four of the seven indices of the Eating Disorders Inventory (EDI).Addicts consumed more chocolate than controls when given free access to chocolate and were more depressed than controls.

Primary prevention of eating disorders: a constructivist integration of mind and body strategies

Article Abstract:

The study investigates the impact of the Girls' Group, an eating disorder prevention program, on female fifth-graders. The results showed a decrease in body dissatisfaction and an increased improvement in self-concept among students who participated in the prevention program.

Testing the efficacy of an eating disorder prevention program

Article Abstract:

Research testing the degree to which a program aimed at preventing eating disorders in preadolescent girls is efficient is presented. Particular attention is given to measurements of dietary restraints and self-esteem. The program's positive effects are emphasized.
