What is this thing called BED? Current status of binge eating disorder nosology

Article Abstract:

This article examines various models that attempt to define binge eating disorder. The authors discuss binge eating disorder as a distinct disorder, as a variant of bulimia nervosa, as a behavioral subtype of obesity, and as a psychopathological behavior among the obese, maintaining binge eating disorder is not necessarily a behavioral subtype of obesity and more research needs to be conducted to determine if it is a distinct disorder.
