Virtually here: the zero hero

Article Abstract:

There has been a lot of speculation about US money being used to bid for and split up quoted UK property companies, according to US software billionaire Donald Urdstat. He emphasizes that he wishes to avoid a contested bid in his search to buy a major quoted UK property firm outright. He believes that, once the managers of leading property firms see what he is offering, they will be willing to sell. He states that he will give all existing directors contracts that will run until they retire. He indicates that he has held detailed discussions with a global agent with a strong presence in the UK.

Heavy weather

Article Abstract:

The UK real estate industry experienced an increase in takeover bids from US firms during 1998, with four main deals taking place during the year. The industry lobbied parliament to reduce stamp duty on properties, which had been raised to 3% from 2% on transactions valued at over 500,000 pounds sterling. The introduction of the European monetary union has influenced estate agents to plan a more active role in Europe.
