Sex, Lawrence, and videotape
Article Abstract:
Writer D.H. Lawrence believed that modern industrialization suppressed intimacy and created sexual dysfunction. Lawrence stated that modern society tended to be guided by mechanical rather than organic principles and viewed sexual pleasure and desire as an intellectual rather than physical affair. Steven Soderbergh's movie, 'Sex, Lies and Videotape' is an affirmation of Lawrence's view. It depicts the videotape as a source of sexual desire and shows that sex itself is being technologized. But while machines may be used as a means of release, an intimate relationship is still the better medium.
